5/20/04    Rene' Joseph's painting "The Fortune Of Time" sold at auction during an fundraising event for scholarshipamerica.org and Dollars for Scholars.  Scholarship America created the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund to provide education assistance for postsecondary study to dependents of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks and to provide scholarships for postsecondary education for families in Lower Manhattan who suffered loss of income as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  The festivities were held at the Minneapolis Hilton to celebrate National Scholarship Month and included SpokesCat Garfield.  Rene' Joseph's book "Curiosity Killed the Fat" also helped raise funds.  The continued theme is "Scholarships – Lighting The Future." National Scholarship Month challenges, motivates and provides hope for students of all ages and backgrounds to obtain the benefits of postsecondary education.

"The subject of The Fortune Of Time is the transformation of the individual through time.  Visual allegories offer clues to the paintings meaning:  The costumed figures represent the history of the past, the chessboard pattern on which they stand represents strategy, and the flying figure represents the transformation.  I chose this image because of its optimistic relation to the theme of education—where the wisdom of the past transforms and informs the future."--Rene' Joseph

7/17/2001 Twin Cities Furnishings Magazine's July issue has a nice write up featuring Rene' Joseph's participation in the Snoopy Street Fair at the Mall of America in MN.  Here is the excerpt:

......Snoopy's Street Fair, which takes place at Camp Snoopy-Mall of America on July 13th and July 14th will be of particular interest to collectors and enthusiasts.....Artist Rene' Joseph, who created DANCING WITH FLOWERS will be present to sign the miniature version of her statue. "I worked with nine children to create the statue," she commented. "It was a great experience, having people come by (at the paint-off) as I created alongside the children, who helped paint in the spirals of color." According to Joseph, a professional artist who commonly works in oil, the spiral idea came from the dancing, happy, elated pose of the statue. The flat flowers in Snoopy's hand(s) playfully echo(s) the two-dimensionality of cartoon Snoopy. The children's names are listed on her web site, www.renejoseph.com..... The figurines being released this summer where chosen from the most popular of the St. Paul statues....

6/14/2001 Miniature "Dancing with Flowers" Snoopys are available at the Mall of America's Camp Snoopy Shop.  Rene' Joseph was at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN to sign the sculptures on the 13th and 14th of July.
