"I once met a Elf who believes rocks have spirits in them and that the rock (or spirit) picks the person.

I do know that when visiting bead shows, I wait for the stones to speak to me.  It's a process that involves holding strings of natural bead stones and working out in my head what is unique about the color, shape, texture.  

At some point it is a leap of faith as I gather different pieces from a room full of vendors.

Most of the jewelry pieces can be worn backwards in reverse or even sideways as the clasp is meant to be seen. 

In fact, some of the necklaces strike the artist as naked without a sense of the clasp, so if you click on most of the photos, you will see the clasp in another web window.

Other ways that Rene' Joseph has used flexibility of design is to make the jewelry versatile enough to double up two necklaces at a time.  Some examples are presented here.
